Piano Accompanist and Repetiteur admission requirements for MA and Non-degree studies

Admission requirements are the same for in person and online applicants unless indicated otherwise.
Performers as partners during the auditions must be arranged for by the applicants themselves.

Main subject:

  • Accompaniment of  3 songs (Lied) of different styles
  • Accompaniment of 3 instrumental works of different styles – 1 movement of a concerto, 1 movement of a sonata, 1 other piece.
  • To perform at sight one piece determined by the committee on the spot.
  • A romantic or 20th century solo piano piece - for example Bartók, Debussy, Prokofiev. Max. duration of 10-12 minutes.
  • Compulsory opera piece in 2023:
    Mozart: Die Zauberflöte, Act I No.5 Quintetto, playing it on the piano and singing a vocal part of a character (chosen by the applicant) in German.

 Applicants will also be asked to hold coaching to a singer provided by the department on the spot.

 

General Admission Requirements - only for full-time ma studies:

MUSIC THEORY FOR APPLICANTS FOR THE IN PERSON ENTRANCE EXAMINATION:

Written examination:

  • Bass harmonisation: harmonisation of a bass line of cca. 10 notes, indication of the accords with figures.
  • Analysis: formal analysis of the opening movement of a sonata from the stylistic circle of Haydn and Mozart piano sonatas.

Exam in general music studies:

  • Identification of 10 music pieces - possibly composer and title, but at least the epoch or style and identification of the genre.
  • Explanation and interpretation of 10 music terms, concepts, titles, etc.
