Liszt Academy professors among Artists of the Nation

The accomplishments of Éva Marton, István Párkai, Miklós Perényi and Ferenc Sebő have been recognized. Former professors at the Liszt Academy Sándor Balassa, László Dubrovay and Erzsébet Szőnyi also received the award.

The list of Artists of the Nation founded by the Hungarian Academy of Arts has been announced. The awards are expected to be presented in early November. The prize goes to a total of 69 Kossuth Prize winners aged 65 or over (with the exception of dance artists) in 10 categories.

Of the professors of the Liszt Academy, opera singer and professor emerita Éva Marton receives the Artist of the Nation prize in the theatre category, while conductor and professor emeritus István Párkai, and violoncello player Miklós Perényi, receive the award in the music category. Of the former professors of the Liszt Academy, the jury recognized the achievements of composers Sándor Balassa, László Dubrovay and Erzsébet Szőnyi. Ferenc Sebő, folk music researcher, folk musician, was listed among Artists of the Nation in the folk art category. And although they only taught at the Liszt Academy for a short time, or within the framework of master classes, still we can be justly proud of laureates in the music category Miklós Kocsár composer, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos pianist-composer, and Tamás Vásáry pianist-conductor, .

The prize can be awarded to well-known personalities achieving outstanding results in artistic life, who have previously received the Kossuth Prize and are aged 65 years or over (50 or over in the case of dance and circus artists), with the aim of showing appreciation for their values and ensuring worthy living circumstances. Under the current rules, the title of Artist of the Nation can be held at one time by 12 laureates in the literature category, 10 each in the fine arts, theatre and music categories, seven in the applied art category, six each in architecture and films, three each in folk art and dance, two in the photography category and one laureate in the circus category.
