Calefax Reed Quintet’s programme builds on a motif spanning civilizations, time and space: storytelling. The tales serving as the foundation of works played at the concert have roots that stretch as far back as the Middle Ages, with the forms that we know them today being shaped in the 19th century; it is from these stories that the music versions were derived. Fairy Tales is a programme for adults although it is crammed with witches, magicians, villains, princesses and monsters, the occasional troll, an army of mice and a handful of enchanted brooms.
