27 May 2016

The trumpeter, who graduated from the Liszt Academy last year, came second out of 132 entrants at the 68th Prague Spring International Music Competition held between 7 and 15 May.

The 68th Prague Spring International Music Competition took place between 7 and 15 May, where 132 competitors matched their skills in the category  ’Trumpet’ from all over the world. After the jury’s selection of the best recordings, 65 trumpeters – from all over Europe, Japan, the United States, Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico and Korea - were invited to participate in the first round.

Only 12 entrants got shortlisted for the second round to perform, the only Hungarian trumpeter being Mihály Könyves-Tóth, and only four of the musicians could compete in the final round. In the three rounds, seven different – both classical and modern - pieces had to be presented all together. The international jury of seven (Vladimír Rejlek, Eric Aubier, Jan Broda, Frits Damrow, Jouko Harjanne, Zoltán Kovács, Philip Smith) deemed Huw Morgan (UK) best, while Maio Martos Nieto (Spain) won the bronze medal.
