Brass Week

Annual summer program since 2012 at Lake Balaton

Since 2012, the brass sub-department of the Liszt Academy has organized an annual summer program of one week in the picturesque Balatonfüred.

During the masterclasses, international and domestic students have the opportunity to learn from the most renowned brass professors in Europe in one of the most prominent regions of Lake Balaton. To add a special flavour to the Brass Week, it is organized at the same time as the Balatonfüred Wine Festival, allowing international participants to experience the unique wine culture of the region. The festival also involves the open air aspect of the summer program, with the participants among the official performers on the stage of the Wine Festival.

Each year the summer academy is concluded with a concert at the concert hall of the local music school.

As of 2014, the focus of the Brass Week has shifted each year. In 2014 the primary instrument was the trombone, with Jacques Mauger, professor at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris, while in 2015 we invited Michael Höltzel, French horn professor at the Deltmold Music Academy.

The project has been supported by the Franz Liszt Academy of Music: the resurgent Budapest centre of European higher music education fund.
