16 February 2021

Anyone can participate in the photo competition launched today by the network of places honoured with the European Heritage Label (EHL @ N), first prize winners get 500 euros.

The European Heritage Label (EHL) is an initiative taken by the European Commission to improve the knowledge of common European history, heritage and values. The label is awarded to sites that are milestones in the creation of today’s Europe, spanning from the dawn of civilization to the Europe we see today, these sites celebrate and symbolise European ideals, values, history and integration. There are 48 places in the EU awarded with the lable, including 4 in Hungary: the Liszt Academy, the Dohány street Synagogue Complex, the city of Szentendre and its living heritage as well as the Pan-European Picnic Memorial Park near Sopron.

The purpose of the EHL is to emphasize and strengthen the feeling of belonging to the Union among all European citizens, especially young people. European Heritage Label turns previous borders into bridges, encourages intercultural dialogue and creates a sense of being part of a united Europe. The label is awarded upon the recommendation by a board of independent experts.

The competition is one of the educational and promotional activities of the European project EHL@N (a cooperation network of cities and places holding the European Heritage Label).  The organizer is the EHL@N project consortium, represented by the project leader Burghauptmannschaft Österreich – Imperial Palace Vienna and the Association of the EHL Sites.

The theme focuses on EHL sites—events taking place there and all kinds of activities promoting the European heritage. That means, photos taken anytime at the Liszt Academy are eligible to compete.
