The Liszt Academy’s concert series Live showcasing the departments of the university has been a popular feature for several years. It offers an excellent opportunity for teachers and students of a selected department to appear together before the general public, while audiences gain deep insight into the results of projects being conducted at the Liszt Academy. For the programme in May the focus is on the piano, chosen instrument of the university’s eponym, Ferenc Liszt. This concert includes the current head of department, Liszt Prize laureate Kálmán Dráfi, and two former department heads as well as former rectors Sándor Falvai and István Lantos; they take to the stage in the company of gifted young artists. The concert programme is largely picked from the 19th century repertoire with works by piano virtuosos-composers of the age of Romanticism Ferenc Liszt, Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann, Frédéric Chopin and Sergei Rachmaninov. The art of Claude Debussy, a key figure of French Impressionism, is recalled by participating artists.
