I am not exaggerating when I say that, whatever I achieved as a musician, I owe more to Leó Weiner than to anyone else. ... To me, he remains an outstanding example of what a musician should be.

Ilona Prunyi (piano)

Beautiful, soft-flowing melodies, ethereal accompaniment, soft pianos and rich fortes – these are some of the characteristics of the style of Ilona Prunyi, who, although a constant presence over several decades at the Liszt Academy as both teacher and concert artist, still has the skill to surprise audiences time and time again with the refined nature and rare diversity of her play. “Even at the age of nine, on observing my fellow pupils, I asked them why they ‘scraped’ the top of the keys when it was such a good game to strike them in different ways ...” she once said. 19th-century piano works offer the greatest possibilities for revealing her very special technique, so it is no coincidence that she has become one of Hungary’s finest exponents of this repertoire. This Romantic recital will provide much in the way of emotional ‘nutrition’ for those who love what is beautiful.
