The training I received at the Academy was difficult and at times harsh, but those who survived the experience emerged as real musicians.

Students of the Liszt Academy have the opportunity to showcase their own talents in the neo-Classical opera by Bohuslav Martinů composed in 1953–54. The composer also wrote the libretto after the popular stage work by Carlo Goldoni. The comedy provides a detailed image of 18th century social transformations: the inn keeper playing the title role is a member of the rising bourgeoisie, independent and confident, literature’s first feminist, whom everyone falls in love with as the plot progresses; of her two suitors, one is a caricature of fallen nobility, the other a nobleman who has bought his rank with cash; the third male character is a misogynist (at least this is what he appears until Mirandolina teaches him a lesson); the fourth is a child of the people, who wins the hand of his lady through sincerity of character.
