In 2025, we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. Musicologists János Mácsai and Szabolcs Molnár will evoke the institution’s history over the course of three evenings. The first fifty years will focus on the opening of the “Király Street Music Palace”, the building at Liszt Ferenc Square in 1907. The conversation, rich in anecdotes, will be accompanied by works by Liszt, Hubay, Mihalovich, and the young Bartók. The second fifty years of the Liszt Academy’s history were shaped by historical storms—world wars and dictatorships—conveyed through the works of Kodály, György Kósa and others. The last fifty years were marked by growth, with students and teachers once again filling the rooms of the Old Academy of Music, and the Ligeti György building opening on Wesselényi Street. The audience celebrating the 150th birthday can look forward to true delicacies, with works by Ligeti and György Kurtág, alongside other exciting pieces.
