Students of the Music Academy

Three distinguished Japanese artists will visit the Academy of Music to give a taste of European and Japanese music in a joint concert with students of the university. This special evening will be a meeting not only of nations but also of classical and folk music traditions. Tsugumi Yamamoto and Satsuki Mochizuki will play the traditional Japanese instruments of the bladed koto and taiko drums, while Ikuko Kawai will be a violinist and composer, performing virtuoso classical works as well as her own compositions. Folk songs and cartoon hits from the East Asian country will be performed, as well as pieces by the pianist-composer Rentarō Taki, who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, who died two years ago.
