In the Storm of History Presented by Liszt Academy

Music History Conversation by Szabolcs Molnár and János Mácsai/2

Works by Dohnányi, Kodály, Bartók and Kósa

The event will be held in Hungarian.

In 2025, we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Music. Music historians János Mácsai and Szabolcs Molnár will revisit the institution’s one-and-a-half-century history over three evenings. The introduction to the first fifty years will focus on the 'Király Street Palace of Music,' the building on Liszt Ferenc Square, which opened in 1907. The informal discussion, filled with many anecdotes, will be complemented by works by Liszt, Hubay, Mihalovich, and the young Bartók. The second fifty years of the Academy’s history were shaped by historical storms—world wars and dictatorships—and this period will be brought to life through the works of Kodály and György Kósa, among others. The latest fifty-year period has been marked by growth, with students and teachers once again filling the halls of the Old Academy of Music, and the Ligeti György building opened on Wesselényi Street. The audience celebrating the 150th anniversary can look forward to true delicacies, along with works by Ligeti and György Kurtág.
