Weingarten scholarship for the academic year 2020/2021

 

Full-time students of the Liszt Academy who are current final year students in their MA or one-tier (teacher training) programs of piano, violin, or voice or former full-time students of the Liszt Academy who are within two years of graduation (MA or one-tier) can apply.

 

Further requirements:

 

 

One semester or a full academic year.

 

 

Applicants need to submit the following documents:

 

Application deadline: 17 December 2019 (Tue), 12:00

 

Applications are to be submitted at Luca Makai at makai.luca[at]zeneakademia[dot]hu / Ligeti building, Wesselényi street 52, Room 014

 

All applications are reviewed by the Liszt Academy’s committee and the final results will be announced early March 2020 the latest. After the application deadline all applicants are invited to an audition that is to be held in January. The selected students have be able to prepare an audio or a video recording to be sent out to the Birmingham Conservatoire for review.

 

The scholarship provided to students (10.000 GBP) covers tuition fees, support for accommodation and living expenses.

 

Health and travel insurance are the students’ responsibility.

Joseph Weingarten was a distinguished pianist who studied at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest but pursued his long career in London.  He was highly respected as a soloist and performed at the Proms and major music festivals and as a chamber musician, working especially in duo partnerships with leading British instrumentalists.

 

Joseph was also an outstanding teacher and held positions at the Birmingham School of Music (now Birmingham Conservatoire) and Trinity College of Music as well as having an extensive private practice.  He enjoyed his connection with the School of Music in Birmingham and with this in mind we were very fortunate that he decided to make a substantial donation in bequesting the funds to support the Joseph Weingarten Memorial Trust.  

 

The Memorial Trust was endowed by both Joseph Weingarten and his wife Lilian to support postgraduate study in piano, violin or voice at Birmingham Conservatoire and the Franz Liszt Academy, Budapest. The Trust is managed on behalf of Birmingham Conservatoire by the University of Central England Trustee Committee. The income from the Trust is administered by the Joseph Weingarten Memorial Trust Management Committee under the chairmanship of the Principal of the Conservatoire.
