General information about applications

Online entrance examinations 2024

The entrance examinations of 2024 will also be conducted online (end of May, early June) for those applicants that travelling poses a great difficulty to. For applicants residing in the following continents/countries online examination is NOT available:
  • Europe (up to Russia and Turkey, from these two countries online examination IS available)

For applicants residing in the following continents/countries online examination IS available:

  • Asia (including Russia and Turkey)
  • North America
  • South America
  • Africa
  • Australia (Oceania)

Please note that the entrance examinations for the following programmes are only held in-person, online entrance examinations are not possible:

  • Choir Conducting
  • Piano Soloist Postgraduate Programme
Note: the Academy strongly encourages applicants to participate, if possible, in the entrance examinations in person.

Method of online examination: video recording (main subject; secondary piano; singing for conductors), video conference (solfége and music theory, folk music, other secondary subjects like career orientation for singers), uploading sheet music and portfolio.

In person Entrance examinations

The entrance examinations for all courses at the Liszt Academy of Music take place at the second half of June/end of June and possibly at the beginning of July. Applicants are informed about the exact date of their entrance examination during May.
The entrance examinations take place at the Liszt Academy of Music, in Budapest, Hungary. All applicants are required to appear before the Entrance Examination Committee in person for the examinations. Live streaming, video streaming, DVDs, CDs, or any other recordings are not accepted as a substitute. Dictionaries, smartphones and any other study aids cannot be used at written and oral examinations, and applicants caught cheating are immediately failed.

Choosing the method of entrance examination will be done after the end of the application period. Applicants will be contacted directly, please make sure you check your spam folders as well.

 

 

 

Language of Instruction

Please note that for international students who do not speak Hungarian, only those courses are available in foreign languages (generally in English) that have their entrance examination requirements listed on the English website of the Liszt Academy of Music. Other courses are currently available in Hungarian only.
