The most important class, however, for me and for hundreds of other Hungarian musicians, was the chamber-music class. From about the age of fourteen, and until graduation from the Academy, all instrumentalists except the heavy-brass players and percussionists had to participate in this course. Presiding over it for many years was the composer Leó Weiner, who thus exercised an enormous influence on three generations of Hungarian musicians.

Flute admission requirements for MA studies

Due to the coronavirus emergency situation, entrance examinations and admission requirements are modified in 2020. Please see the red text below for the current admission requirements.

Main subject:

Video recording of a 20-minute programme (with image and sound in any digital way), without piano accompaniment.

The pieces in the video recording must be recorded uncut.

Short breaks between the pieces are allowed. 

  • J. S. Bach: Partita in A minor 
  • Mozart: Concerto in G major or D major with cadences, 1st movement until recapitulation.


Due to the coronavirus emergency situation, there will be no examination in music theory during the 2020 entrance examinations.



Admission requirements in 2019

Main subject:

  • J.S. Bach: Partita in A minor played from memory.
  • Mozart: Concerto in G major OR D major with cadences played from memory.
  • A 20th century piece chosen by the candidate.


General Admission Requirements:

Written examination:

  • Bass harmonisation: harmonisation of a bass line of cca. 10 notes, indication of the accords with figures.
  • Analysis: formal analysis of the opening movement of a sonata from the stylistic circle of Haydn and Mozart piano sonatas.


Exam in general music studies:

  • Identification of 10 music pieces - possibly composer and title, but at least the epoch or style and identification of the genre.
  • Explanation and interpretation of 10 music terms, concepts, titles, etc.
