Viola admission requirements for MA studies

Due to the coronavirus emergency situation, entrance examinations and admission requirements are modified in 2020. Please see the red text below for the current admission requirements.

main subject

  • One scale through 3 octaves, one arpeggiated triad in the same key, also through 3 octaves.
  • Etude No.8 by Lukács
  • J. S. Bach: Chromatic Fantasia OR the introductory movement of any fugue (from the Violin Solo Sonatas or Partitas) OR Chaconne in D minor
  • The outer movement of a concerto, with or without accompaniment, and with cadene if possible

Length of recording: approx. 20 minutes

 

Due to the coronavirus emergency situation, there will be no examination in music theory during the 2020 entrance examinations.

 

 

 

Admission requirements in 2019

Main subject

  • One scale through 3 octaves, one arpeggiated triad in the same key, also through 3 octaves.
  • One etude by Vieux chosen by the candidate or Etude No.8 by Lukács.
  • J. S. Bach: Chromatic Fantasia or the introductory movement of any fugue (from the Violin Solo Sonatas or Partitas) OR  Chaconne in D minor
  • The outer movement of a concerto.

 

General Admission Requirements

Written examination:

  • Bass harmonisation: harmonisation of a bass line of cca. 10 notes, indication of the accords with figures.
  • Analysis: formal analysis of the opening movement of a sonata from the stylistic circle of Haydn and Mozart piano sonatas.

 

Exam in general music studies:

  • Identification of 10 music pieces - possibly composer and title, but at least the epoch or style and identification or the genre.
  • Explanation and interpretation of 10 music terms, concepts, titles, etc.
