Liszt Academy Announces the 2nd Tibay Zoltán National Double Bass Competition

On April 12th the Double Bass Sub-department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music will be organizing for the second time the Tibay Zoltán National Competition dedicated to the professor who was known around the world of his musical sensitivity as well as virtuosity.

Among countless national and European successes, Tibay was the first performer in Hungary at a concert where double bass was featured as a solo instrument. The aim of the competition is to offer a high quality opportunity to students where they can compete against their peers from all over Hungary.

 

Venue AND DATE:

Friday 12 April 2024, 10.00 | Liszt Academy Main building, Room I (H-1061 Budapest, Liszt Ferenc tér 8.)

 

ELIGIBILITY:

Hungarian or foreign students who either study at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music or another Hungarian musical higher education institution in a BA or MA program.

 

APPLICATION DEADLINE:

30 March 2024

 

CONDITIONS:

There is no application fee for the competition.

Travel and accomodation costs are the responsibility of the participants.

HEAD OF THE JURY:

Mr. ZSOLT TIBAY, professor emeritus of the Musashino University in Tokyo.

 

Prizes:

The competition’s total prize money is 280 000 HUF.

The jury reserves the right to either divide or decline to hand out certain awards.

 

CATEGORIES: 

BA students, MA students.

Students in the five-year teacher program are eligible to participate in the BA category.

 

AUDITION MATERIALS:

BA STUDENTS

(in case it is necessary piano accompaniment will be provided)

BA 1st round:

Compulsory material:

  • L. v. Beethoven: IX. symphony 4. mov. Recitativo, use of score if permitted
  • J. S. Bach: G-major cello suite (BWV 1007) Minuet I. II. transcript, use of score is not permitted.

Freely chosen material:

  • A freely chosen fast and slow movement from a sonata that is part of the curriculum. Use of score is permitted.


BA 2nd round:

  • A freely chosen fast and slow movement from a concerto that is part of the curriculum. Use of score is not permitted.

 

MA STUDENTS

(in case it is necessary piano accompaniment will be provided)

MA 1st round:

Compulsory material:

  • L. v. Beethoven: IX. symphony 4. mov. Recitativo, use of score if permitted
  • J. S. Bach: G-major cello suite (BWV 1007) Prelúdium, use of score is not permitted.

(The original cello score is played an octave up to the second note of measure 37, the third sixteenth from D in normal reading.)

 

Freely chosen material:

  • A freely chosen fast and slow movement from a sonata that is part of the curriculum. Use of score is permitted.


MA 2nd round:

  • A freely chosen fast and slow movement from a concerto that is part of the curriculum. Use of score is not permitted.
