BA double bass trainings – examination and diploma requirements

year 1, semester 1

Repertoire:

  • Etudes: 1st volume of Hrabe, 1st volume of Storch
  • Sonatas: Fesch, Marcello
  • Concertos: Pichl, Capuzzi
  • Performance pieces: movements from Bach's cello suites, Tchaikovsky: Nocturne op.19. no.4.
  • G. Bottesini: Reverie

Examination requirements:

  • 2 etudes
  • one fast and one slow movement of a sonata
  • one performance piece (slow or fast, solo or accompanie, performed without sheet music)
  • one slow and one fast movement of a concerto (performed without sheet music)

year 1, semester 2

  • Somatas: Galliard, Vivaldi, Marcello
  • Concertos: Cimador, Hoffmeister
  • Performance pieces: movements from Bach's cello suites, Schwalbe: Romance, G.Fauré: After a Dream, Rachmaninoff: Vocalise

year 2, semester 1

Repertoire/examination requirements:

year 3, semester 1

year 3, semester 2

Repertoire/examination requirements:

  • Etudes: Czerny: 30 etudes, Montag School for Double Bass V.
  • Sonatas: Gallai: Solo sonata, Hindemith: Sonate
  • Concertos: Vanhal: concert in D major, Simandl: Concert op. 75.
  • Performance pieces: Bottesini: Gavotte, Fryba: Suite im alten Stil


REQUIREMENTS OF THE DIPLOMA CONCERT:

Public diloma concert, where at least four pieces have to performed:

  • one solo, without accompaniment, which can be a movement of a J. S. Bach cello suite, but even a contemporary piece,
  • two movements of a sonata or a slow and a fast performance piece with piano accompaniment,
  • two movements of an original concerto,
  • one chamber music piece.

The sonata or performances pieces and the concerto pieces must be of different styles.
The sonata with accompaniment cannot replace the chamber music piece.
The programme must be performed without sheet music except for the chamber music piece and the sonata.
