The Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok conducted by Gábor Hollerung insert a composition by Ernő Dohányi into the context of a classical and romantic symphony. The grandiose variation series written for a children’s rhyme known throughout Europe is perhaps the wittiest work of the former director of the Liszt Academy and piano virtuoso marvelled at the world over in his time. It is a true piano concerto. The devilishly difficult principal part is played by Jenő Jandó, who has been a professor of music at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music for close on four decades (and thus a successor of Dohnányi), one of Hungary’s most renowned and sought after pianists, an artist who holds both the Liszt Prize and the Kossuth Prize, and is a Meritorious Artist. His recordings have made him a household name even on the international stage; he has long performed in partnership with Gábor Hollerung and their joint concerts are always an experience. This occasion promises to be no different.
