Concerto Armonico, who celebrate the 30th anniversary of their foundation this year, were created from the coming together of undergraduates of the Liszt Academy in 1983: playing on period instruments, they cultivated and popularized (in a pioneering fashion in Hungary) the practice of historical performance. After playing in Hungary to considerable acclaim, the ensemble gained an international name under artistic director Miklós Spányi performing at concerts and festivals abroad. Among the many Budapest recordings of Concerto Armonico, the series comprising the entire collection of keyboard concertos of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach made for record label BIS is of ground-breaking significance. Their release was hailed by music critics as a sensation around the world. This concert includes concertos by Vivaldi and Bach as well as three sonatas by Corelli, in an orchestral arrangement true to 18th century practice.
