Concerto Budapest

Vezényel: Alexander Sladkovsky
Appearances by musicians who are ranked among the best on their instruments yet who we rarely have a chance to hear always arouse particular expectation. This time we have the pleasure of meeting two such artists at the same time in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy, and both are supreme exponents of the distinguished Russian school of music. The guest soloist studied (from the tender age of eight) in the very same world famous Gnessin Special School of Music that has turned out such pianist greats as Oleg Maisenberg, Yevgeny Kissin, Boris Berezovsky and Alexei Volodin. Varvara Nepomnyashchaya continued her studies at the Moscow Conservatoire, and from 2013 she has been perfecting her craft in Hamburg under one of the most interesting and original characters on the piano scene, Yevgeny Koroliov. On winning the Géza Anda Piano Competition in Zurich in 2012, the jury also awarded her the Mozart prize, while she picked up the audience prize for her performance in a Beethoven piano competition. The conductor for this recital was born in the port town of Taganrog in 1965, studied in the conservatories in Moscow and St Petersburg, and has strong links with the latter institution having conducted its orchestra for several years. Alexander Sladkovsky has conducted many other ensembles in his home country and worked as assistant to Maris Jansons and Mstislav Rostropovich. As artistic director of the Tatar National Symphony Orchestra he has performed throughout Europe, working with such renowned musicians as Nicolai Lugansky, Vagyim Repin, Montserrat Caballé and Roberto Alagna. This performance by two extraordinary Russian artists, alongside Concerto Budapest, features major works from two giants of the symphonic genre.
