Alexander Melnikov graduated from the Moscow Conservatory under Lev Naumov. His most formative musical moments in Moscow include his early encounter with Svjatoslav Richter, who thereafter regularly invited him to festivals in Russia and France. He was awarded important prizes at such eminent competitions as the International Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau (1989) and the Concours Musical Reine Elisabeth in Brussels (1991).
Invited by the leading orchestras, Melnikov has performed with orchestras including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Munich and BBC Philharmonic under conductors such as Mikhail Pletnev, Charles Dutoit, Paavo Järvi and Philippe Herreweghe. Melnikov discovered a career-long interest in historical performance practice performs regularly with distinguished period ensembles. He is also active as a chamber musician with regular partner such as the violinist Julia Fischer.
During his concert in Budapest, he will play Beethoven’s famous piano concerto in B flat major together with the Franz Liszt Chamber Ochestra that will also perform reknown pieces such as Haydn’s No 44 ’Trauer’ symphony and the Symphony No 40 by Mozart.
