Christmas concert

-;-Concerto Budapest
The traditional, late December concert in the Liszt Academy by Concerto Armonico Budapest (leader: Miklós Spányi) promises to be exciting for several reasons. The famous historical ensemble are performing excerpts from Händel’s rarely played last-but-one opera Imeneo dating from 1740, what’s more in the company of two great singers, Lúcia Megyesi Schwartz and Zoltán Megyesi. Winding up the concert is Bach’s trio in A minor (BWV 1044), in which the violin, flute and harpsichord receive solo roles; these three leading parts are performed by Miklós Spányi, János Bálint, who regularly plays with the ensemble and is a Liszt Prize winner flautist, and Péter Szűts, one of the founders of Concerto Armonico Budapest and concertmaster of the Budapest Festival Orchestra for many years. The opening number is a true curiosity: a suite written by Miklós Spányi in Baroque style, about which the composer said: “I always protest if somebody calls music written in an old way ‘style practice’. I believe that if someone is able to integrate themselves perfectly into a music language used uniformly earlier, then they are able to express their thoughts in it as well. I can speak fluent late Baroque music, without any grammatical mistakes.”
