Imre Ungár Memorial Concert A Zeneakadémia saját szervezésű programja

“Anyone who had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Imre Ungár for just half an hour became a better person for it.” A student of his once said this of the internationally-renowned pianist known particularly for his Chopin interpretations, and who as a highly influential professor of the Liszt Academy assisted in the development of several generations of musicians. His students include famous artists such as composer Zsolt Durkó as well as pianists László Baranyay and Tamás Németh who also appear at this commemorative concert. Ungár lost his sight at the age of three, he was five when he started playing piano and music quickly became his goal in life. A turning point in his career was a shared first prize at the 1932 Chopin Competition in Warsaw. His legendary solo recitals were hallmarked by intense lyricism, dramatic power and tenderness. Right up to the end of his life Ungár dedicated extraordinary support to the music teaching of blind students and the careers of blind teachers. Students, admirers and the artist’s great grandson, Apor Szüts, pianist-composer currently studying at the Liszt Academy, dedicate this recital to the memory of the Liszt and Kossuth Prize-winner pianist.
