2014 marks the fourth decade since the winner of the 1st International Conductors’ Competition of Hungarian Television (1974), Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, became a firm favourite with the domestic audience and one of the principal figures of Hungarian music life. The Japanese conductor is virtually an adopted Hungarian, or as he has put it, through reincarnation he feels and regards himself to be Hungarian. The master has even closer ties with the Hungarian National Philharmonic, since for a decade he was the principal conductor of the 90-year-old ensemble, giving numerous memorable concerts in Hungary and abroad. This Liszt Academy recital promises to be yet another great moment, when Gustav Mahler’s ‘Resurrection’ Symphony No. 2 is performed.
