In tonight’s concert, the MÁV Symphony Orchestra performs works of Russian composers, which are conducted by the principal conductor of the orchestra, Péter Csaba. The 1812 Overture of Tchaikovsky was composed in 1882, commemorating the historic year when, in an heroic fight, the Russian army intercepted the advancing army of Napoleon and forced it to return. The entire composition is filled with uplifted pathos, a form of expression that was so close to Tchaikovsky’s spirit that he even subtitled his 6th symphony composed in 1893 „Pathetic”. A few days after the premiere of the symphony he passed away, leaving the world with the question whether or not he sensed the approaching death. His younger fellow composer, Alexander Glazunov followed his path. His violin concerto written in 1904 has become the most popular of his compositions. He dedicated this work to Leopold Auer, who established the later world-famous Russian violin school. Tonight, Glazunov’s composition is performed by the pride of the contemporary Hungarian violin school, the rightly world-renowned Kristóf Baráti.
