Two superb musicians take to the stage of the Liszt Academy’s Grand Hall and introduce us to the marvels of chamber music through classical and lesser-known works. Both artists drew attention to themselves at a remarkably early age, exploding onto the international scene as winners of top competitions. Sol Gabetta, who was born in Argentina but is of Russian-French descent, lives in Switzerland and directs her own festival there. Now a world star, she found fame at the age of ten, when she won her first competition. She then received a special prize at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition and the ARD competition in Munich. In her twenties she was playing with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Lucerne Festival under the baton of Valery Gergiev, and she made recordings with pianist Hélène Grimaud and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, which was conducted by the legendary Lorin Maazel. Sol Gabetta’s partner for the recital is Alexei Volodin, who is very familiar to Budapest audiences. His career took off in 2003 when he won the Anda Géza Piano Competition in Zürich.
