A solo, a duet, a trio and a quartet are on the programme of the chamber music concert of István Várdai and friends. Várdai is the only musician to win both the ARD International Competition in Munich and the Geneva International Competition, taking two special prizes as well from the latter. He managed a similarly sensational result in Moscow in 2007, where he came third at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, considered among the most prestigious of contests. The 30-year-old cellist, Prima Junior prize winner, has been teaching at the famous Kronberg Academy since 2013. He meets up with artists of a similar calibre on the magnificent stage of the Liszt Academy in order to pick from among the pearls of music. Sergei Krilov, student of Leonid Kagan and Salvatore Accardo, was associated with Mstislav Rostropovich not only as a musician but as a close friend, and with whom he performed in concert on several occasions. Rostropovich has had a huge influence on the shaping of his career. Lars Anders Tomter, Norwegian violist and member of the older generation, studied under Sándor Végh among others; he established a reputation as a special prize winner at the International Viola Competition, Budapest, in 1984. Since then he has appeared in many major concert halls around the world and has been a soloist for world premieres on more than one occasion. Argentinean Nelson Goerner moved into the circle of leading artists in international music as winner of the Liszt competition organized in Buenos Aires. He was winner of the piano category of the Geneva International Music Competition in 1990. Just like his fellow musicians, chamber music holds a special place in his heart (he regularly cultivates this with other renowned performers), so we can be assured of a very special evening.
