Concert by the Ensemble of Beijing Academy of Traditional Music

-;-
We are, quite rightly, proud of the rich history of West European art music, the beginnings of which can be traced back to around the first written evidence of the Gregorian repertoire, in the 9th century. In other words, we are talking about a music tradition spanning some 1200 years. However, by stepping outside the limitations of our Euro-centric view of the world, this pride is immediately put in a different perspective since, for instance, Chinese music culture can boast a history stretching back in an unbroken line over several thousand years. Chinese classical music passed on through oral tradition is as much a part of this as is the astonishingly rich folk culture of the different regions of China. The latest archaeological research traces the latter back several millennia, long before the emergence of European civilization, that is to say, to perhaps the oldest stratum of human cultural history. The concert jointly organized by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Hungary, the Gateway to Europe Association supporting Hungarian-Chinese cultural, educational and commercial relations, and the Liszt Academy presents the music of the different regions of China in an authentic performance by the very best Chinese folk musicians.
